Little update

It's time for an update. I'm often too tired to post something these days. What can I say? Life is good. I really like Cologne so far and I really hope to go out tomorrow night with some people from work. Work is great. It's still hard though but I'm pretty sure everything will be very good in a few weeks. Most of the people working there are very young and haven't been there for a long time so they remember how it is starting to work there. They help me and all the other new people a lot and so I get the chance to get used to everything step by step. Really, it's very good.
What's not so good is that it's getting colder outside and we don't have heating in our flat at the moment. Nobody really seems to care but it's really bad especially in the mornings and evenings when you don't really want to go into a cold bathroom and take a shower. And I already had a winter with practically no heating last year so I'm not going to do that again. My roommate tried to call the janitor a couple of times yesterday and today but he doesn't pick up the phone. I really hope we get to talk to him tomorrow because it's supposed to get really cold over the weekend.
Also we still don't have a hoover. I'm pretty bothered because with three people living here things just get dirty and I really can't relax after work in a dirty flat. As nobody's doing anything I think I have to go and buy one although I really don't have the money lying around... Anyway, I'll have to but I'm taking all this stuff with me if I move out (hoover, all the things in the kitchen, tv) and I won't even care.
Well, beside this, life is really good and I'm pretty happy. I feel a bit lonely from time to time, because I don't really know anyone here and most evenings I spend at home on my own (my roommates aren't home a lot). But I'm sure I'll make some friends here soon and everything, I'll just have to go out and be a bit patient ;-)
That's it for now I think and now I'm going to sleep. Tomorrow I'll visit my friend Julia in Düsseldorf and I am very excited!

There they are...

... the pictures I promised. My "bed" or the place where I sleep at the moment and my bedside table (even with special effect). How do you like it? I have to hide all those wires somehow, they make it a bit messy. Oh, and I brought the DVDs into the living room to make some space for more books there ;-)

step by step

I've been pretty busy during the last days. I started work yesterday and it was really good. There are two more new people on my ward so it's not that hard for me as I'm not the only one who has to learn everything and ask for everything and stuff. Very cool now I have the weekend off and go back to work on Monday. I'm pretty excited!
At the moment I try to make my room and the whole appartment more comfortable. First of all it needs to be cleaner here. I'm really not a neat freak and stuff but it wasn't very clean when I arrived, especially the kitchen and the bathroom. There's no hoover and nothing to clean with really so I was a bit helpless. But now my roommate accepted that it's disgusting and is helping me with cleaning and wants to buy a hoover. I hope it'll work.
Today I went to the flea market and it was so much fun. It takes place every Saturday so I guess I will be there a lot. Today I bought a children's chair which is my bedside table now (just needs some color soon) and a little shelf for the kitchen. It already looks better now. I'm positive that it will be pretty cosy in here in a few weeks.
I just tried to upload some pictures of my room but it didn't work. So maybe tomorrow!

At home or something like that.

It's done! I moved into my new appartment yesterday. I'm so glad my roommate helped me getting all my stuff upstairs. We were totally exhausted after that but I don't want to think about what it would have been if I was on my own..
Anyway, I brought all my stuff into my room and even if there is no furniture really it looks pretty nice. The walls definately need some color though, everything is white. And the floor isn't very nice so I need an idea for that, too. And then, when I have money, I need a bed, a wardrobe and some shelfs and stuff. It will be all very nice I think!
I can use my neighbor's internet connection as long as we don't have our own, that's so nice, I just knocked on their door earlier, gave them 5 Euro and asked if I can use it and it was no problem. One of them just moved in today and invited me over for a beer, so I sat there for a while and just had a little chat. It was nice, I met some of the people who live there and some friends of the new guy. It's definately very easy to meet people here, that's good. My roommates seem to be nice, too. One of them is a student and she goes out a lot and spends a lot of time in her room during the day but she's nice. And the other one goes to school and to work and is nice too. I think everything will be fine here for the next few months and that's good. Work starts on Friday and is only 5 minutes away, I can just walk there, that's perfect!
That's it so far, I'm very tired, it's all so new and exciting and all.

just a short notice

Just to let you know, everything went well so far. I'm in Cologne right now, sitting at a computer in an internet cafe waiting for my roommate to come home from school so I can get into the appartment. I wanted to show you pictures of my packed car but I couln't find my camera in that mess. I can just tell you, nearly my whole life was in that car (still is!), isn't that sad? Anyway, went to the doctor this morning, he said there's no problem with me starting to work on Friday as long as my blood is okay (should be...). And now I have my contract and am soooo excited to move into my new flat and start working and everything.
Yesterday I went to visit Jana on my way to Cologne and spent the night there. It was so nice to see her again. It's already a month since we're back from Ireland. So weird still. But nice to have her here, not too far away. She's moving, too, on Saturday.
Well, that's it for the moment, I'll write again when I have internet at my flat.

There's the silver lining...

Imagine, I got a room! The one I wanted! When I came back from Cologne I was hoping for two rooms and one immediately cancelled. The other one, I didn't really see a chance because there were so many people applying for it but I got it. It's so cool! One of the girls living there is really nice, I met her Saturday. And the other one just came home before I left but she seems to be nice, too. The room itself is pretty small but there's a big living area which is pretty unusual but very nice. So now I'm just waiting to drive up there again to bring my stuff and make plans and all.
My car is back as well. And it wasn't as bad as I expected first so that's okay now.
I was in a really bad mood yesterday because everything seemed to be messed up but today it really looks a bit brighter and there are only a few more things to organize and then I can move and start the next part of my life. So looking forward to it...

Just can't sleep...

Well, it's pretty late and I still can't sleep. Too many thoughts, too many things going on. Yesterday (well, or the day before... I'm talking about Friday) I got up pretty early and drove to Cologne. I wanted to look at some rooms. So I went to see two on Friday, spent the night at a friend's place who lives close to Cologne (thank you soooo much!) and went on to see another four today. It was crazy, so many different people, so many different places in Cologne. I had two favourites, one already wrote me an e-mail to say she found someone else, the other one I'm still waiting for. Keep your fingers crossed! That room is the most expensive one but it's in a good part of the city and very close to my work so it would be ideal. But if it doesn't work I'm not too sure what to do. I'll probably take the room that is a bit out of the city but still close to my work. The girl who's living there doesn't really seem to care, apparently she works a lot and just wants to share the flat because of the money. I could just move in with her for the first couple of months and then find something else.
I came back home at around half 8 and since that I want to get to sleep. First I was watching TV but at 11 I went to bed. I couldn't fall asleep so I got back up. At 1.30 I tried it again but still couldn't fall asleep. Then my brother called me and asked me if I can collect him from a fair. I did but then my car died on the way back home. My Mom collected us in the end and I had to leave my car there. I hope everything's fine because I don't have money to fix anything...
Anyway, I'll try to go to sleep now again, it's about time that I finally find some rest.

xoxo Jenny
